Grapefruit size uterine mass8/3/2023 I laid in bed for about a week, drugged out of my mind. Hey there! I recently went through the same type of thing a few weeks ago, but mine was not dermoid. If anyone has suggestions on how to cope with the pain, discomfort, and boredom of having to remain so stagnant? How long did it take you/your loved one to get back to normal and on their feet? Any related experiences would be a great help and comfort to read about! I wanted to turn to all of you as well, I am wondering if anyone else has experienced abdominal surgery? Or know anyone close to them that has. I have a smile on my face and have had the most wonderful support from my family and loved ones. I feel immensely grateful that all went so well considering. I'm quite a tiny lady, so the giant swelling causes an immense amount of pressure that makes it difficult to breathe. I have been switched through a handful of different narcotics, none of which seem to be doing a single thing to eliminate the pain. I was told by friends and family that I would be heavily medicated enough to not feel much aside from general discomfort post surgery. This blows my mind that things like this exist! She described it as a 'grapefruit' and proceeded to tell my family and I that it had contained both teeth and hair inside it. Fortunately, the woman who operated on me was absolutely amazing! Not only did she remove this mass of mine, but she saved a small portion of my right ovary in the process! What came out of me was something no one expected. I was told that they would have to remove the entire ovary, and was even made to sign a waiver that they would possibly have to perform a hysterectomy if any abnormalities were discovered upon opening me up. I was told none of this could be confirmed until I had a surgical procedure to removed the mass. I spent the limbo weeks in fear of whether or not this was a cyst, a tumor, did I have cancer? All the possibilities I feel most normal people would be when confronted with something they didn't understand very well. After many ultrasounds it was finally concluded that my uterus was in fact not bulky, but was being compressed down by my right ovary which was swollen to the size of the uterus itself. They first suspected it was uterine fibroids, fairly common among young women and generally easy to deal with. But this was soon followed by absolute panic. The Doctor between my legs was making small talk about boys and Google when she proclaimed that I had a so called 'bulky uterus' - Initially I was offended, which I feel anyone would be by such a direct statement. This all started when I was getting an annual at my local OBGYN. I am 24 y/o and just had a dermoid cyst removed from my right ovary, complete with teeth and hair inside! Sounds gross, huh? The past few months have been agonizing.
